Jolly Phonics – Learn to Read

The UK's well-known synthetic phonics program as a lesson app for parents and teachers.

AppAges 3–7

Our take

A lesson app for the Jolly Phonics program: 42 letter sounds in seven groups with actions and songs, then blending, segmenting, alternative spellings and "tricky words". Its guidance has children identify the regular and tricky parts of those words rather than memorise them. It covers the early code only, and is built for an adult to lead.

A good fit for

  • Parents who want a well-known, low-cost program for a first year of phonics

Look elsewhere if

  • Anyone past the basic code
  • Children who need to practise alone
